The optimum hunting round has arrived.
The Xtreme Hunter (XH) was born from the incredibly popular Xtreme Defender product line. Like the XD, the Xtreme Hunter (XH) ammunition has an optimized nose flute. The difference is that weight and attained velocity have been optimized to achieve maximum penetration depth with a permanent wound cavity (PWC) that is just simply enormous. No expanding hollow point comes close to achieving anywhere near the diameter and volume of wound channel achieved by the Xtreme Hunter. Not only is the PWC over 100% larger than any other expanding bullet. Terminal performance is achieved despite being shot through barriers. The solid copper body ensures that thick hide, bone, and any other barrier will have minimal effect on the Permanent Wound Channel.
The primary advantages of the Platinum Edition coating are as follows:
- Improved Corrosion Resistance of the Copper: There will not be any oxidation (brown spots) or darkening of the copper projectile over time or extended storage. In aggressive applications such as wet, humid and even salt water, the coating will protect the copper from oxidation or verdigris. This is very beneficial for self-defense ammo that is often purchased and stored for use for extended periods of time.
- Improved Lubricity & Enhanced Feeding: The finish provides excellent dry-film lubrication that helps with feeding in all actions of firearms. The coating is very forgiving on modified guns since it reduces the friction of the projectile against the feed ramp as well as the chamber entrance.
- Reduced Barrel Wear:Â The coating reduces barrel wear over a standard monolithic projectile.
Nickel plated casings with Underwoods new nickel plating process provide several key benefits, not limited to but including; improved feeding in all actions of firearms enhanced corrosion resistance over traditional brass, improved cosmetics, and ease of cleanup during reloading. Nickel-plated casings will not tarnish like brass during storage or when in contact with foreign materials such as leather, moisture, and other metals.
Until the development of the Ducta-Bright 7a process, nickel plating casings often limited the number of reloads as compared to raw brass. It was claimed that nickel-plated brass casings embrittled the brass therefore making it less desirable for reloaders despite the ease of cleanup that nickel plating offers. In addition, ammunition engineers raising concerns of using nickel plating in very hot +P or magnum loads found that traditional nickel plating often cracked deep-drawn cases, or worse, lead to a total failure. This new process eliminates any concern, to the shooter or reloader, of hazard or ability to re-use the brass. As with all of Underwood Ammo rounds, They utilize flash suppressed powder so that your vision will not be compromised if it becomes necessary to use your firearm in low light.  This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.
